The Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (MFVGA) is coordinating a group order of strawberry and raspberry plants for Upper Midwest growers.  By combining grower purchasing power we’re able to obtain quality plants, refrigerated transport and storage, competitive prices and savings to growers.  Proceeds from the plant sales support small fruit research programs at the University of Minnesota.

ORDER EARLY!!!  Please note the ordering deadlines – some varieties sell out early and we encourage you to order your plants as soon as possible.  We cannot guarantee the availability of plants ordered after the deadline.

If you are interested in varieties that are not listed on the order form, let us know.  We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to get the plants for you, but we can check with our suppliers.  If they carry the plants you want, we’ll see what we can work out.

The price for June-bearing strawberries starts at $125 per thousand. Patented varieties include royalties.  All plants are virus indexed.  A $20.00 premium per thousand will be added to strawberry plants ordered from Nova Scotia.  Most raspberry varieties are available for $900 or $985 per thousand.  Because our costs keep increasing, there is a surcharge if the total number of raspberry plants ordered is less than 1,000 plants.  If you compare our prices for plants and shipping, you will find that plants ordered through MFVGA are still a bargain.  Remember, our plants are shipped on refrigerated trucks and kept in refrigerated storage until you pick them up.

You can reserve your plants by simply paying $50 per thousand when placing the order, balance due April 1.  Deposits are non-refundable after March 1, unless plants can be resold without loss by MFVGA.

Nursery Choice:

MFVGA has always dealt with reputable plant nurseries.  This year we intend to source our plants from Nourse Farms in Massachusetts and Keddy Nurseries in Nova Scotia.  Depending on availability, we will do our best to honor your preferences.   If you do not indicate a preference, we will use our best judgement to maximize economies of cost, transportation and logistics.  Orders are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.  There is a $20.00 premium per thousand on strawberry plants ordered from Nova Scotia.  Any necessary pricing adjustments will be made when the orders are confirmed.

How to Order:

Anyone may purchase plants.  While orders can be placed at the MFVGA annual conference, to ensure you get the varieties you want, we encourage early ordering.  (Some major varieties are close to selling out in February!).  Orders placed after February 15 will be accepted subject to plant availability from the nursery.  Before you order from someone else, check with us!  If you have questions, contact Stuart Lavalier 763 688 1639 or email at Sample Order form is available here.

Tentatively scheduled for mid-April with delivery to a metro area drop point. Depending on the orders, other drop points may be added.  If you prefer, shipment from the metro area via UPS is available at cost.  In the case of orders of 5,000 plants or less, we reserve the right to deliver plants via UPS at cost if a nearby drop point is not available.

How these prices compare:

To make your own comparison, figure out your plant cost and delivery cost from a different supplier.  Remember to consider the value of refrigerated transportation.  Standard transportation (UPS, etc.) is not refrigerated.
